This 1990 Lada Samara 1500s is for sale down the street from me for $1200.00. It's SO tempting. Maybe I could trade the Mazda for it.

The Seller has a pretty good walk around video that is good for a chuckle.

Yeah the guy posted the vid a while back and has one of the best YouTube channels in my opinion, but it was one of his friend's cars that he had found. I think $999 and you have a deal haha.

Yeah. They're actually easy to work on and reliable from what I hear.

I'm really tempted I might shoot him a text to see if he still has it. I see the add is from September. I have no money for this but how cool would it be to have a truly one of a kind car. that 90% of the people would have no clue what it is.

I think it would be great. Maybe needs about $300 of work. Just don't drive it at high speeds.

I don't know if they're reliable, but I'll bet you everything they're more durable than anything built in the States. (take it from someone who's seen his fair share of old Slavic cars. reporting live from Warsaw)

Yeah. I would say the durability alone would make them a reliable choice for transportation.

I used to see my fair share of those as people of Balkans were quite fond of Ladas. My tech/shop teacher had one in elementary school, sometimes even wrenched on it there. Not the most fuel efficient or (surprisingly) rust proof, but with a little care and the occasional breakdown, it would keep going for years and years. Top man, that teacher. He could kick your ass (literally, no joke) or shell out life lessons. And workshop safety. Unfortunately, died of heart attack at about 40 years of age.

Anyway, the Samara. I always liked the look of it, too bad Lada didn't keep up with the times. I remember doing a bunch of sketches for a 'new Samara' circa 2004, when the new Focus launched. The fairly long hatchback shape and simple design cues made it practically a Samara in my eyes anyway. :D

Plus look at the Lada logo:

How 'bout them apples. Here's a quick photochop with the logo, steelies, amber turn signals and unpainted bumpers.

Needs a roofrack and fog lights, methinks:

Could work, back in the noughties, eh? :)

If it was a riva I would of bought it already but a Samara needs some more thinking before doing something crazy. RWD>FWD.

But your right that generation focus could totally be a Lada if they cheapened it enough. It has the right look.
